Rome January 2020 Day 3,4 & 5 | Vatican City | Ice Club | Gelato| Traveling
Hello, I am back with part 2 of my Rome trip, which are the last 2 days of the trip. If you're new to my blog hi, thank you for visiting, I have days 1 & 2 here if you want to catch up with that first. Without anymore rambling I will just get into it....
The Previous evening we were thinking about what to do on day 3 as I hadn't planned anything. After speaking to a few friends that had visited Rome I decided to book tickets to the Vatican City, which wasn't expensive at all I was very surprised.
So we woke up very early this morning as we had decided we would walk to the Vatican city, while getting some breakfast on the way. We of course picked up some crepes, which were amazing dripping in Nutella AMAZING! Our tickets for the Vatican were booked for 10am and we arrived there about 9:30 which was ample as we could go straight in. I was expecting huge queues, however we literally picked up our tickets and walked straight through. We found our bearings and plotted our route around (its huge). If you're thinking about visiting the Vatican, but are not sure please go, I was so blown away with everything there was an option too to have a guided tour or audio tour (wish we would of done the audio one). However we learnt so much and the artefacts were amazing, and a lot of them beautiful! I'll include some of the pictures I managed to take, however they do not do justice as all, and Unfortunately you're not allowed to take photos in the sistine chapel- just take my word for it, its beautiful.
After finishing at the museum we grabbed some lunch at their little canteen/restaurant and it was lovely (had pasta of course). We then had a wonder around the ground which are beautiful, we went at the beginning of January and they still had the Christmas tree up which was lovely to see. So we got some photos and started our stroll back...
We had no plans so we were in no rush to be anywhere so on the way back we called in a few souvenir shops and bought the family some presents. On the way back to the hotel we found the Castel Sant'Angelo, we decided not to actually go inside however it did look lovely and now I wish we had of.
That night we decided to have a bit of a date night, so we got a little glammed up and went for dinner in a cute diner themed restaurant which was not far from the colosseum. Then after we had ate we visited the ice club, I had been recommended this by someone in work and I am so glad we did it. I will warn you it is absolutely FREEZING not just a little chilly... It was 30 euro (I think) for 1 shot each and 1 drink each which I thought was good considering its a fun experience. We didn't last that long in there not going to lie, we stayed around half an hour and decided to leave a little tipsy. We decided we would walk to the Colosseum to see it all lit up at night and get some pictures. It was beautiful.
On the walk back to the hotel we walked via the Trevi, as we had seen a gelato shop and we both really wanted to try it. I can confirm it was the BEST ice cream/gelato I have ever had in my life.. I absolutely demolished mine and finished Corey's. By the time we finished our ice creams we were back at the hotel and just chilled out and watched a film, we had decided to have a lie in the next day so there was no rush to do anything.
Next day we literally didn't wake up until gone 10am we were shattered, as we had done so much walking and exploring. We decided as it was our last day we didn't want to do anything too tiring, so we decided to go on a little walk. We got up and dressed and walked to the Piazza del Popolo to grab some lunch, where I no joke had the nicest pasta I have ever had in my life (Cacio e pepe).
After some Lunch we had a wonder around the Villa Borghese which is a big beautiful park, we walked around the whole park and then headed to some shops as I wanted to have a little splurge in Sephora. Also really wanted to find a Victoria secret (turns out its tiny and in a station), needless to say the 1 hour walk was defiantly not worth it. So we just had a wonder around the area and headed back to the hotel to get ready for dinner, as we wanted to eat earlier so we could have an early night.
We decided to go back to the first restaurant we went to on the first night as we loved it so much, so we walked up towards the Spanish steps again and admired the last of the pretty views. For food I had the exact same as I did on the first night (pomodoro). We made a detour on the way home for more gelato as I was literally OBSESSED at this point, then we wondered back to the hotel stopping off at some last minute souvenir shops.
As soon as we got back to the hotel I was in full swing of sorting out our cases/carry ons, then we just had a little reminisce about our holiday and by this time it was 12:00 and Coreys birthday so I found some embarrassing pictures of him, to do the obligatory facebook pot then we went to sleep.
We had to get up at 6am, as our taxi was picking us up at 7am. I hate things like this because I just get stressed, so you bet I checked every drawer 6 times then we checked out and waited for our taxi. The before we knew it (another GTA car journey) we were back at the airport. We literally breezed through security AGAIN to come to the smallest duty free ever, so I literally had pizza for breakfast 'When in Rome' right? Our flight was on time, we boarded and before we knew it we were home.
It was 100% the best city break I have been on, it was so chilled out, the weather was gorgeous (apparently all it did in the UK was rain) and I just had the best company. If you're thinking about Rome I do highly recommend it.
I booked everything separately
